Three Selected as AMCC Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Three Penn State Behrend student-athletes have been named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday afternoon.

Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North Swimmer of the week, as well as AMCC Swimmer of the Week for leading the men's swimming and diving team to secure their 12th straight AMCC Championship this past weekend. He was the only swimmer at the championships to hit an NCAA "B" cut time. Patterson was the individual champion in three events (500 free, 200 free and 200 back), while also swimming on two winning relays. Overall on the weekend, he set 10 individual records and helped set the pool record in the 400 medley relay.

As for the women's swimming, Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) earned both ECAC North and AMCC Swimmer of the Week after helping the Lions finish in second place at the championships. Lowery was part of eight records, setting four individual and winning two individual events at the AMCC meet. Lowery broke two records leading off the winning 800 free relay and then the relay broke four more. She won the 200 IM and 400 IM, while swimming on three winning relays. 

In men's tennis, Yanique Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA) went undefeated against Waynesburg, picking up two wins at the top spot in both doubles and singles. He recorded an 8-4 win in singles and tallied an 8-3 victory with Brenden Dollar at No. 1 doubles.
