Nichols, Russell Selected as AMCC Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend softball pitcher AJ Nichols (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) and men's tennis player Scott Russell (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) have been named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.

Nichols was recognized as the Pitcher of the Week for her performance in the circle, throwing a 0.00 ERA while allowing just five hits for a 1-1 week for the Lions. She threw a three-hit shutout in game one against Thiel. Nichols pitched 7.2 innings and allowed just two hits in a 2-1 loss to Westminster. She struck out 14 batters on the week, seven in each game. Nichols also recorded five hits, three RBIs and a double at the plate. 

For the second time in three weeks, Russell has been acknowledged for his play. He was undefeated in both singles and doubles action in three matches this past weekend. He registered a pair of wins at No. 2 singles and another at No. 1 singles against Pitt-Greensburg. At No. 2, Russell battled to win three-set matches. He also paired up with Yanique Apgar for three doubles wins at the top spot.
