Nikki Kaschauer Wingertsahn was an offensive juggernaut for the Penn State Behrend softball team during her standout career from 2006-09. She was a four-time All-AMCC selection and a two-time NCAA All-Tournament Team choice. Kaschauer was the AMCC Player of the Year and Team MVP in her sophomore season and earned NFCA All-Region in her senior year. She led the AMCC in hits in back-to-back seasons and finished first in the record books with 220 for her career. She also holds the program records for games played, singles and at bats, while ranking second in RBIs and runs.It did not take Kaschauer long to get started when she began her career with the Lions. She batted .409 in her first season to help the team post a 34-10 overall record and an impressive 16-2 mark in the AMCC. Behrend was crowned AMCC Champions and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Kaschauer finished the season ranked second in the AMCC in hits, fourth in runs, and fifth in RBIs. She was named a First Team All-AMCC selection and landed on the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
During her sophomore campaign, she earned the coveted AMCC Player of the Year award, ECAC Division III Player of the Year, the team’s Most Valuable Player, and First Team All-AMCC honors. She was named an ECAC All-Star for the following statistics: She registered a .438 batting average, 63 hits, 39 RBIs, 35 runs, 17 extra-base hits and a .611 slugging percentage. Those numbers ranked her first in the AMCC in hits and RBIs and second in runs and doubles. As a team, the Lions advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Southern Region Tournament and finished with a 29-16 overall record.
Kaschauer helped lead the Lions to another AMCC title in her junior year. The team went 33-14 overall and 13-5 in the AMCC. Kaschauer led the conference in hits and was second in both doubles and triples. She collected a .405 batting average to go with 60 hits, 34 RBIs, 34 runs, and a .520 slugging percentage.
To cap off her college softball career, Kaschauer helped the Lions to a third AMCC title in four seasons and a 33-8 overall record, which included an unblemished 18-0 mark in AMCC play. She was named First Team All-AMCC, NFCA Third Team All-Region, Academic All-AMCC and an All-Conference Sportsmanship recipient.
In program history, Kaschauer ranks first in games played (172), hits (220), and singles (163). She ranks second in RBIs (133) and runs (141), and seventh in doubles (33).
After graduating from Behrend in 2009, Kaschauer obtained a master degree in special education. She currently lives in Carnegie, PA and is a special education academic advisor at the Pennsylvania cyber charter school.
