Lions Bounce Back With 9-5 Win

FORT PIERCE, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team got back in the win column after defeating Immaculata University 9-5 Saturday afternoon to wrap up their spring training trip in Florida.

The Lions (3-6) shook off the loss and bounced back by scoring runs in five different innings in the victory over the Macs (4-8).

Immaculata opened the game on fire, hitting two back-to-back doubles to post an early 1-0 after the first two batters. However, the Lions were able to get out of the jam by getting next three batters out, ending the inning.

The Lions registered a couple runs for themselves in the first as well. After Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) was walked, Ryan Hamm (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) and David Boehme (Venetia, PA/Seton-La Salle) hit back-to-back singles to get the Lions on the board. John Brittner (Zelienople, PA/Seneca Valley) then hit a sacrifice-fly to center field to score Hamm for a 2-1 advantage.

Behrend tallied three runs in fourth, one in the sixth, one in the seventh, and ended with two in the eighth inning to end their Florida road trip strong.

The lone run in the seventh was from a Zach Murray (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) solo homer to left-center field, notching the Lions first homerun of the season.

Sada batted 2-for-3, including a double in the fourth and a lead-off triple in the eighth. He also scored three times for Behrend.

The Lions return to action when they travel to Muskingum to face-off against Hiram on Friday. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
