Baseball Splits With Alfred State; Lions Shut Out Pioneers in Opener

ALFRED, NY  – The Penn State Behrend baseball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader with Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The Lions shut out the Pioneers 12-0 in game one, before falling 13-9 in the nightcap.

Game One (Seven Innings)
Scores:  Penn State Behrend 12, Alfred State 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (16-8, 5-2 AMCC), Alfred State (14-12, 6-5 AMCC)

Key Moments:

* Phil Myers (DuBois, PA/Dubois Central Catholic) remained undefeated on the hill with his third complete game and first shut out of the season
* Myers pitched seven innings and allowed just two hits with a strike out for his fifth victory
* In Behrend's 13 hits, Scott Sada (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) and Justin Foreman (Oakdale, PA/South Fayette) each homered
* The Lions scored in five of the seven innings, plating five runs in the fourth for a 9-0 lead
* Sada and Joshua Wagner (South Park, PA/South Park) each drove in three runs. Wagner smacked two doubles to continue to lead the team in RBIs
* In a game of multiples, Behrend registered three stolen bases from Sada, Zack Bowen (Plum Borough, PA/Serra Catholic) and Ryan Weaver (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin)
* With three RBIs, Sada now has 150 career RBIs 

Game Two (Nine Innings)
Scores:  Penn State Behrend 12, Alfred State 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (16-9, 5-3 AMCC), Alfred State (15-12, 7-5 AMCC)

Key Moments:

* The Lions took a 5-1 run after four innings of baseball
* Alfred State slowly chipped away at the lead with a run in the fifth and sixth, before two five-run innings
* The Pioneers grabbed a 8-6 after the seventh, but Behrend added three in the top of the eighth for a one-run lead
* Alfred State tallied five more runs in the bottom of the eight for a 13-9 lead that would stand
* Behrend went through four pitchers, starting with Ben Ramey (Export, PA/Franklin Regional) and Weaver for the loss
* Weaver finished 3-for-5 with a double
* Sada extends his hitting streak to 17 straight contests
* Z. Bowen turned a pair of hit into a pair of runs on the day
* Jarrod Deaton pitched 1.1 inning and got the win to move to 4-0
