ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell in a doubleheader to Alfred State on Wednesday.
Game One: Alfred State 4, Penn State Behrend 3
Records: Alfred State (23-13, 9-4 AMCC), Penn State Behrend (25-8, 9-2 AMCC)
Key Moments:
* The Lions kicked the scoring off in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run triple from Dylan Barnes (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) and sacrifice fly from Mac Ciocco (Venetia, PA/Peters Township)
* Alfred State cut the deficit to one (3-2) with an RBI single off the bat of Zach Young and capitalized on a Behrend throwing error in the top of the fourth inning
* The Pioneers took their first lead of the day in the sixth with a pair RBIs from Connor Kiefer and Elijah Barinas
* A two-out double from Silvio Ionadi (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) gave the Lions the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Alfred State starter Ryan Bailey was able to force a pop out to end the game
* Bailey tossed his sixth complete game on his way to his fifth win of the season, surrendering five hits with four strikeouts and no earned runs
* Young and Jordan Hughes each tallied two hits for the Pioneers
* Five different Lions recorded a hit in game one
Game Two: Alfred State 11, Penn State Behrend 4

Key Moments:
* Tyler Korsky delivered a two-run double and Young registered an RBI single to give the Pioneers an early 3-0 advantage in the first inning
* Alfred State tacked on five more runs on three hits in the top the of the fourth inning
* The Lions got on the board in the fourth and fifth inning with runs batted in by Cayden Turner (Stoystown, PA/North Star) and Thomas Nicely (Delmont, PA/Franklin Regional)
* In the top of the sixth, the Pioneers added two more runs to make their lead 11-3
* A two-out Alfred State error plated another run for Behrend in the bottom of the ninth
* Game two Pioneers starter Christopher Mattoon helped complete the doubleheader sweep and secure the team's 24th victory of the year with his second complete game of the season, giving up seven hits and one earned to go along with one walk and two strikeouts
* Caleb Walker led Alfred State with three hits, while Anthony Snyder drove in a game-high three RBIs
* For Behrend, Ciocco, Nicely, and Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA/Seton LaSalle) notched two hits apiece
* Sawyer Prince (Shinglehouse, PA/Port Allegany) and Chase Caricato (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) threw a combined three scoreless innings out of the Lions bullpen in game two
