Men's Soccer Announces Team Awards

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team announced their team awards for the 2017 season, which are voted on by the members of the team. The Lions finished with a 16-5-1 record, sustaining a perfect 9-0 unbeaten record in conference play. Behrend was cut short in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) finals via penalty kicks, and then fell 1-0 to Grove City in the final seconds of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Round.

Senior forward Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) was named Most Valuable Player of the squad this season. Dziadosz started every game this year for the Lions, putting together his best season in a Behrend uniform. He led the offensive firepower for the team, burying 10 goals and dishing out 11 assists for a total of 31 points.

Newcomer of the Year went to Christian Eckberg (Norwin, PA/Norwin). The freshman midfielder started all 22 games for Behrend, and was instrumental in their success. He scored three goals and added two assists for eight points. Eckberg earned a Second Team All-Conference nod in his freshman campaign.

Sophomore defender Andrew Mastovich (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) received Most Improved Player. The center back helped record eight shutouts on the season, six of which coming in conference play. Mastovich contributed on offense as well, tallying three goals and one assist for seven points.
