Early Lead Lifts Men's Tennis Past St. John Fisher

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team swept the doubles competition and split the singles competition to come away with a 6-3 win over St. John Fisher in non-conference action on Saturday at Westwood Racquet Club.

The Lions (6-12) won by two sets in each of the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Elliot Blackstone and Chris Galvin made up the top doubles team for an 8-6 victory and John Michalko and Jake Fling posted the same score at the second spot. Brian Goda and Chris Tillman put Behrend up 3-0 with a 8-5 win over Gregory Duffy and Joseph Aquino.

The Lions locked up the win after the five singles matches were complete. Blackstone, Galvin and Michalko sealed the victory with singles wins. At No. 1, Blackstone recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win while Galvin went into extra sets at No. 2 singles. He handed Aquino a 7-5, 6-1 loss.

Michalko became the third player to collect two wins on the day for Behrend. He posted a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Christopher Maley at No. 6 singles.

The Lions return to action on Thursday at Westminster. Match time is 4 p.m.
