Men's Tennis Edges D'Youville, 5-4

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team won two doubles and three singles matches to defeat D'Youville 5-4 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Friday night.

The win is the first conference victory for the Lions (2-5, 1-0 AMCC) this spring season.

Nick Kapty (Monongahela, PA/Ringgold) and Terry Kowalskyj (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) had to fight for their No. 2 doubles win, coming away with a 9-8 decision over John Nazzarett and David Kulczyk. Brett Palmer (North East, PA/North East) and George Tomoiga (Reading, PA/Wilson) posted an 8-4 victory at third doubles to give Behrend a 2-1 lead heading into singles competition.

Kapty, Palmer and Tomoiga were also successful in their singles games. Kapty was a three-set winner over Nazarett. He fell in the first set and then came back convincingly to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Palmer and Tomoiga won in straight sets by identical scores. Palmer, playing at No. 5 singles, won 6-2, 6-1 over James Moran and Tomoiga earned a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Nathanial Damon in the sixth spot.

Behrend returns to action today at Baldwin Wallace for a make-up match, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
