Tingley Reaches 200 Career K's; Softball Splits With Carlow

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader with Carlow on Thursday afternoon. The Lions fell short in game one, 12-11, and posted an 8-2 win in game two.

Game One: Carlow 12, Penn State Behrend 11
Records: Penn State Behrend (10-15, 5-4 AMCC), Carlow (13-18, 6-3 AMCC)  

Noteworthy: Junior pitcher Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) reached 200 career strikeouts in the first inning of game one

Key Moments:

* The opener featured 30 total hits, 23 runs and eight errors combined
* Carlow broke open a 6-all game with six runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning for a 12-6 lead
* The Lions added three runs in the bottom of the frame and then another in the sixth inning
* Behrend held the Celtics scoreless in the final two innings
* In the seventh, the Lions had two runners on and scored on a wild pitch with one out showing
* With the winning run at third, the Celtics got out of the inning with two pop-up outs for the one-run victory
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) went 3-for- 5 with a triple and two RBIs
* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double
* Tingley pitched the first five innings and struck out five and Lauren Rabanal (San Diego, CA/Westview) came in relief for the final two innings

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 8, Carlow 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (11-15, 6-4 AMCC), Carlow (13-19, 6-4 AMCC)  

Key Moments:

* Rabanal recorded her third win in the circle, allowing two earned runs on four hits, and Julia Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) recorded her first save of the season with three strikeouts
* The Lions had two three-run innings, starting in the second
* Williams singled to center field and scored an error from the centerfielder after Karma Malcolm's (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) single
* Athena Iverson (Pittsburgh, PA/The Ellis School) knocked in Malcolm and then scored on a throwing error for a 3-0 lead
* Carlow got within one thanks to two runs in the third
* Chloe Nale's (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) double in the bottom of the third scored a pair of runs to push the lead to 5-2
* The Lions added three insurance runs on four hits for the final six-run margin
* Nale, Williams, Iverson and Malcom had two hits apiece
