Five Lions Named AMCC Player of the Week

ERIE, Ny. - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) office released their weekly award winners for the week of October 18-24 with five Lions tabbed as winners.

Women's Volleyball (Offensive): Brooke Joncas (Corry, Pa./Corry) had double-digit kills in two of the three matches this week, totaling 32 kills and a .394 attack percentage. She tallied 11 kills vs. Alfred State and 13 in a 3-0 win over Hiram. Joncas also added 10 digs, seven service aces and three blocks. Joncas' play helped lift the Lions over second place Alfred State to put a stronger hold on the top spot in the conference.

Men's Soccer (Defensive): Andrew Cassano (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was instrumental in keeping two clean sheets this past week with solid play on the back end as the Lions picked up two shut-out conference victories. The solid defensive play resulted in just three shots on goal by opponents which included limiting Hilbert to just a single shot on target. Behrend earned a 1-0 victory over Alfred State mid-week, before picking up the 4-0 victory over Hilbert on Saturday.

Women's Swimming: Marcella Puglia (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) tallied a pair of individual wins on Saturday at Westminster. She recorded her first win in the 200 free (2:03.94) and then touched first in the 500 free (5:38.20), while missing first in the 100 free by .04 seconds.

Women's Diving: Julia Sank (North East, Pa./North East) was second on the one-meter (141.00) and on the three-meter board (107.11) on Saturday at Wesminster in her first outing of the season.

Men's Swimming: Jake Schmidt (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) had a hand in four first-place finishes to help the Lions come from behind to defeat Westminster. The graduate student was first in the 1000 free (10:32.10), the 500 free (5:09.77) and the 100 free (48.91), while swimming a leg on the winning 200 free relay.
