Cherie (Varrassa) Stadler (1992-95) is one of the best pitchers to ever sport a Behrend Lions uniform on the softball diamond.

Stadler, a Corry High School graduate, led from the circle while serving as the crucial ingredient to the program achieving a regional ranking of number-two, and a national ranking of sixteen. The two-time All-ECAC, All-Region, and All-NSCA Academic All-American,  was at her best when it mattered the most, annually defeating national ranked teams.

As her team set the school record for wins in back-to-back seasons, she led the team to four straight ECAC Tournament appearances including a pair of titles. Stadler was a part of three no-hitters in her career and was the all-time leader in wins in a career with 42, ERA at 1.18, complete games with 47, games started, appearances, innings pitched, strike-outs, and shut-outs in a single-season and career.

Stadler, who was ranked nationally for wins and ERA, led her team to a very special 1993 season. She posted a 15-2 mark, with a minuscule 1.18 ERA, while walking only 12 batters in 112.3 innings pitched as the team set a school record for wins with 29, and posted the fourth best winning percentage in all of Division III.
