After suffering a double header sweep by Washington and Jefferson the Behrend Lions bounced back to beat Fredonia State 11-8 in a single nine inning game. With the win the blue and white moved to 28-9 on the year and took the three game series 2-1.

The blue and white took advantage of two Fredonia errors in the first inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Both the leadoff man, Jon Gray (State College/State College), and Ed Kessler (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) reached on error to start the game. Junior Josh Fyffe (Fredonia/Sharpsville) then doubled to score Gray. The Behrend Lions finished the first with two hits and four unearned runs.

Fredonia State tied the game at four in the third inning. The blue and white proceeded to knock in three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and eighth to give the blue and white a little cushion. The Behrend Lions needed the cushion as Fredonia fought back getting one run in the seventh and three in the ninth before Ryan Smith (Franklin/Franklin) settled in and closed out the game to give the blue and white an 11-8 victory.

Fyffe went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Both Gray and Kessler went 2-for-4 on the day. Gray scored four times while Kessler knocked in one run and scored two.

Fran Haus (Wexford/North Allegheny) got the win for the Behrend Lions going six innings giving up five hits, four runs; one earned and struck out two. Haus moved to 3-0 on the year with the win.

The Behrend Lions will travel to Denison for a double header on Sunday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. The blue and white will then host the AMCC Tournament on May 8-11.
