The Penn State Behrend baseball team won its third consecutive AMCC Championship on Sunday, May 16 with an 8-3 victory over Frostburg State in the conference title game.  The Behrend Lions will now advance to the Mideast Regional Tournament hosted by Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

The blue and white advanced to the championship round in the AMCC Tournament by defeating both Penn State Altoona and Mount Aloysius in consecutive days. The regular season champion and host Frostburg State Bobcats lost on Friday but then picked up two wins on Saturday to advance to the championship round.  In the first game on Sunday, Frostburg picked up a 17-4 win to force a deciding game.  Behrend would come out victorious in the final game of the tournament behind stellar pitching from freshman Ryan Jacobs (Port Vue/South Allegheny) and clutch hitting from seniors Ryan Liddle (DuBois/DuBois) and Dustin Dubensky (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney).

“We are excited to be heading back to the NCAA tournament,” said Assistant Coach Paul Henry.  “Our guys know how difficult our region is and are looking forward to the challenge.  We feel fortunate to have veteran leadership that has experienced the NCAA regional competition before.”

Penn State Behrend earned the seventh seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and drew familiar foe Wooster for their opening round game.  The blue and white battled the Fighting Scots earlier this year with Wooster taking both games.  The contest will take place on Wednesday, May 19 at Don Schaly Stadium.  Time for the game is set for approximately 4:30 p.m.
