A total of seven Behrend baseball players were recently named to the 2010 All-Conference team with senior shortstop Josh Fyffe (Fredonia/Sharpsville) leading the way as the conference Player of the Year.  Two players were named to the first team while five were named to the second.

The Penn State Behrend baseball team made it three in a row when they successfully defended their conference title by defeating Frostburg State just a little over a week ago.  Behrend would then make a run in the NCAA Tournament by winning the first two games over highly respected Wooster and Thomas More, but the season would come to an end after back-to-back losses to top-seeded Heidelberg and tournament host Marietta.

Fyffe and junior pitcher Ryan Zamiskie (Jeannette/Penn Trafford) were both named to the AMCC first team with Fyffe winning his second straight Player of the Year honor.  He had a tremendous season that capped off a brilliant career.  Fyffe led the team in almost every category with an average of .478 and 10 home runs which ranks him second all-time in Behrend history.  He drove in 60 RBI and recorded 14 doubles and eight triples.  The shortstop had an on-base percentage of .530 and slugged .808.  Zamiskie was counted on throughout the entire season and came through when it mattered most for the blue and white.  He had an ERA of 1.50 and appeared in a team-leading 17 games.  The junior recorded four saves and had a record of 7-1.  Zamiskie's only loss might have been his most impressive outing of the season as he went 10 innings against Marietta in an elimination game and lost a heartbreaker 2-1.

Ryan Jacobs (Port Vue/South Allegheny), Ryan Geibel (East Butler/Butler), Dustin Dubensky (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney), Jon Gray (State College/State College) and Matt Bittner (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary's) all were named to the second team for their efforts and success throughout the season.  Only a freshman, Jacobs was a key force in the Behrend Lions run to a third straight title.  He was 7-3 with a team-leading three complete games.  Jacobs was the winning pitcher in the conference championship game throwing all nine innings and only giving up three runs.  Geibel had a great season both defensively and at the plate.  The junior catcher hit .375 while driving in 30 runs and aided the pitching staff with his work behind the plate.  Also a freshman, Bittner hit .367 while driving in 30 runs and recorded 33 hits.

Dubensky and Gray found themselves in familiar territory with yet another All-Conference selection for the third time for both.  Dubensky was second to Fyffe in batting average at .386 and broke the school record for single-season RBI with 68.  Gray finished off his career in successful fashion as he hit .358 with 40 RBI and 11 doubles.  Gray finished his four years ranking third all-time for hits.
