Eddie Kessler (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) and Fran Haus (Wexford/North Allegheny) have been named the AMCC player and pitcher of the week for the week of May 11, 2009.

Kessler led the conference champion Behrend Lions in hits, RBI, homeruns, and total bases during the AMCC tournament including two homeruns in the same inning versus Pitt-Greensburg.

Kessler went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs in the first round game against Pitt-Greensburg.  Throughout the tournament Kessler did not strike out. The sophomore went 7-12 (.583) with 6 RBI and a stolen base. Kessler picked it up in the field as well, going all three tournament games without an error.

Kessler is batting .413 with eight doubles and a triple.  Kessler is also fifth on the team with 36 RBIs.

Haus pitched seven and two-thirds innings in the AMCC Championship game scattering seven hits allowing only two unearned runs to pick up his fourth win of the season.  Haus pitched great throughout the game.  Altoona had two runners aboard in the seventh before Haus got a groundball that turned into a key 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.  Haus gave way to Ben Cain (Venetia/Peters Township) to close out the game and give the Behrend Lions (31-11) their second championship in as many years. Haus has a 2.53 ERA with 15 strike outs in 32 innings pitched this season.

The blue and white will travel to Lakewood, N.J. for the Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by Kean University.  The fourth seeded Behrend Lions will take on fifth seeded TCNJ at 10:00 a.m. at FirstEnergy Park.
