Lions Split With Bobcats In AMCC Action

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team took game one of the doubleheader, 14-5 only to fall in game two, 6-4 to Pitt-Greensburg, Sunday in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC)action.

Geoff Lang led the way for the Lions (17-6, 9-2 AMCC). In game one, Lang went 4-for-5, including a double in the fourth inning that brought home two runners and pushed the Behrend lead to 8-1. The senior right-fielder wasn't done yet, he hit a single in the sixth that tallied another two runs for the men, 12-3.

The Lions amounted four-run innings in the first and fourth to give them a comfortable lead, before crossing home five more times in the sixth.

Behrend was also helped out by Ryan Geibel who batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs on the day as the Lions went on to defeat the Bobcats (8-18, 5-8 AMCC), 14-5.

Ryan Jacobs improved his pitching record to 4-2 after going five innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out seven batters.

Continuing were they left off, Behrend posted two quick scores in the first inning of game two. After hitting a single through the infield, Ed Kessler made it home thanks to a throwing error on the Bobcats (9-18, 6-8 AMCC) shortstop, 1-0. The next score came off the bat of an Evan Bukowski. The sophomore catcher hit a RBI single to bring home Matt Bittner.

The Lions (17-6, 9-2 AMCC) struggled to make timely hits in the remainder of the game, only tallying two additional runs. After posting a .485 batting average in game one, Behrend fell to .303 in the game-two loss, while leaving 11 runners on base. Lang and Giebel also cooled down, the two combined 2-for-7 in the backend of the doubleheader.

Kessler had a terrific game despite the 6-4 loss. The senior shortstop batted 3-for-4 while scoring two runs and had a solid day in the field.

Bobcat's pitcher Colish earned his first win of the year (1-5) and Mike Moyer received his first loss of the season (3-1). Moyer threw for 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) and struck out five batters in the loss.

Behrend returns to action April 20 at Pitt-Bradford. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
