Lions Close Out AMCC Season Strong With Wins Over Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team led by a couple of homers by Matt Bittner, picked up two big wins at Pitt-Bradford, 20-16 and 10-0 to close out the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) regular season.

The Lions (20-10, 12-5 AMCC) battled back from an early 6-1 deficit by posting 10 runs on six hits in the fourth inning, spurred by first baseman Harry Latta's three-run bomb over the leftfield fence, 11-6.

The Panthers (18-12, 8-7 AMCC) rallied in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs all earned off of Ryan Jacobs, 11-9.

Behrend was not done yet, the men would score five runs in the fifth, three of which by way of a Bittner homerun to right field, 16-9.

The Lions seven-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning proved to be too much for Bradford. The men finished the front end of the doubleheader with a 20-16 victory.

The Behrend bullpen was busy, six different Lions took to the mound in game one. Zach Matthews recorded his first win of the year after throwing for 1.1 innings.

Game two was over in the first inning with the Lions (21-10, 13-5 AMCC) posting three runs. Another Bittner dinger cruised over the centerfield wall, this time scoring Ed Kessler and Latta. Bittner would finish the game with four RBIs.

After a three-hit performance in game one, Kessler reached safely three more times in the second matchup. The senior shortstop also scored two runs to help the Lions to a convincing 10-0 game-two win.

Jay Condit was victorious for the second time this week. The senior hurler pitched five shutout innings and struck out two batters.
