ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball program is getting ready for their 14th consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs appearance. This year, Lions have secured the No. 3 seed.
The Behrend Lions (21-10, 13-5 AMCC), who are coming off a four-game win streak, will host No. 6 Pitt-Greensburg in a best of three series on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. The winner will go on to the championship round and face No. 2 La Roche on Thursday, May 12 at 9 a.m. Penn State Altoona will host the nine-inning, double-elimination tournament.
Behrend won the AMCC Championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament each of the past three years. The Lions offense will be guided by Matt Bittner and Geoff Lang. Bittner is 28th in the NCAA Division III statistics in RBIs per game and Lang is tied second for triples (8) and triples in a game (.27).
The blue and white will depend heavily on the arms of Ryan Jacobs, Mike Moyer, and Ryan Zamiskie. The three men have won a combined 13 games this year. Moyer leads the Lions with a 2.38 era, while Jacobs is the regular season strikeout king with 8.27 K's per game. The returning AMCC Most Valuable Pitcher Zamiskie, posted a team-best record of 6-2 and has pitched in two complete games.
