Lions Fall Twice in AMCC Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell twice on Friday afternoon in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship Tournament.  The Lions lost to La Roche 3-0 before being defeated by Mt. Aloysius, 3-1.

In game one, La Roche pitcher Tyler Ferguson silenced the Behrend bats.  The freshmen pitcher only allowed three hits in 7.2 innings of work to earn the win.

Dante DeSantis (DuBois, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) was great for the Lions in 5.2 innings.  DeSantis struck out six batters.  Jory Okerlund (Smethport, PA/Smethport) threw 2.1 innings of scorless relief.  However, Behrend was just unable to get anything going on offense.

With the loss, the Lions moved on to play Mt. Aloysius in an elimination game.

The first inning saw all the scoring that both teams would produce in the game.  The Mounties came out hot with three hits and three runs in the top of the first to take the early lead.

This time, the Lions came back with a run in the bottom of the inning.  Matt Bittner (Lancaster, NY/St. Mary's) doubled home Ryan Kragnes (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) who reached base to start the inning.

Once again though, that was all that Behrend was able to manage, taking the 3-1 loss.

Ryan Geibel (East Butler, PA/Butler) contributed two hits in the second game.  Kragnes had two hits as well in game two.

The Lions will now await an ECAC bid on Monday.
