Behrend Baseball Sweeps AMCC Weekly Awards

ERIE, PA. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced Penn State Behrend baseball players Zack Bowen (Pittsburgh, PA/Serra Catholic) and Jeff Zick (Moon, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) as this week's standout performers with each earning their first weekly accolade this season.

Bowen was tabbed AMCC Player of the Week for registering a hit in all five games last week including multi-hit performances in four, helping the Lions to a perfect 5-0 record. Bowen collected 12 hits in 22 at bats (.545) and hit for extra bases seven times including two homeruns. He finished the week with an astounding 1.091 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.674. Bowen produced 13 runs and drove in eight while swiping six bags without getting caught. Bowen was on cycle watch in both victories over Altoona, completing three legs of the rare accomplishment while combining for six hits in the conference sweep.

Zick was named AMCC Pitcher of the Week by earning his second win of the season over Medaille last Tuesday, tossing seven-strong innings in his lone start of the week. Zick improved on his conference-leading mark in ERA, keeping the Mavericks scoreless through seven innings of work. Zick registered a dozen strikeouts and allowed just two hits with the 12 strikeouts being a new career high. Following the start, his ERA dropped to 1.53 and continues to lead the AMCC.
