Behrend Falls in Consecutive Games in AMCC Championship

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team had their run at an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship come to an end on Sunday with consecutive losses to No. 2 Mount Aloysius. The Mounties forced a second game with a 10-4 victory in game one and clinched the first AMCC Championship in program history with a 10-5 win in game two.

Game One Key Moments:

* Mount Aloysius was propelled by a six-run fifth inning to take a 9-4 lead and added one more in the ninth to force a second game
* The Mounties struck first in the second inning with a pair of run-scoring singles
* With one gone in the bottom of the third, Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) hit a towering flyball to left field that left the yard, getting the Lions within one
* Donny Watters (Perry, OH/Perry) tripled later in the inning and scored as the equalizer via RBI-single from Chase Palmer (Brookeville, PA/Brookeville)
* With Mount Aloysius getting one back in the top of the fourth, Zac Bogats (Corapolis, PA/Moon) and Zack Bowen (Pittsburgh, PA/Serra Catholic) each drove in runs to take a 4-3 advantage
* The Lions were held scoreless the remainder of game one despite totaling 14 hits

Game Two Key Moments:

* The Mounties scattered 10 runs over five innings and kept Behrend out of the run column after the fifth frame
* The Lions opened the scoring in the first inning with two RBIs going to John Berger (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) on a single through the left side
* Mount Aloysius responded with a lone run in the top of the second but would be matched by Behrend in the bottom half
* Hunter Jamison (Allison Park, PA/Shaler Area) and CJ Weller (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) came away with back-to-back hits for extra bases with Weller driving in Jamison with an RBI-double to right center
* A five-run fourth produced the eventual game-winning run for the Mounties and added four more over the course of the next three innings
* Stouffer struck again in the fifth with a two-run homerun the opposite way, scoring Bowen as the last two runs for Behrend

Noteworthy:

* Jake Deitz (Erie, PA/McDowell), Stouffer and Berger were named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend
* Stouffer logged three homeruns over four games and had a team-high seven RBIs
* Berger collected six hits in 13 at bats during the conference tournament and while scoring and driving in three runs
* Deitz registered a .400 batting average and had the game-winning single in to get the Lions to the AMCC Title Game

* Behrend will await a potential bid for the Easter College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament, to be announced early this week
