Behrend Men's Soccer Announces 2009 Team Awards

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team recently announced its team award winners for the 2009 season. The Behrend men's soccer team award winners are chosen by a vote of team members.

Senior goalkeeper Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) was named team MVP for 2009.  Walker was named Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC South Region tournament and leaves Behrend as the all-time goals against average and total shutouts.

Lance Sabol (North Huntingdon/Norwin) was tabbed the team's leadership/scholarship award winner.  The junior midfielder started all 25 games for the blue and white and led the team in goals (11) and points (22).  Sabol was also selected as the team representative for the AMCC All-Sportsmanship team. 

Cory Neiderer (Centre Hall/Penns Valley) was named team most improved player.  The sophomore defender scored one goal and added an assist in nine games played for the Behrend Lions.

Danny Poljak (Pittsburgh/Upper St. Clair) was named the team's rookie of the year for 2009.  The freshman forward scored one goal and one assist while starting all 25 games for the blue and white.

The Behrend men's soccer team captured the 2009 ECAC South Region Championship with wins over Neumann, Lebanon Valley, and Wesley.  The team finished with a mark of 18-5-2, setting a Behrend school record for wins.
