Lions Move Onto NCAA Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team earned its third NCAA Division III Tournament bid by defeating No. 25 Medaille, 1-0 in the AMCC Championship game on Saturday.  Now the Lions will travel to Oneonta, NY for the first round of the tournament this weekend.

Behrend (12-6-1) is back in the NCAA field for the first time since 2007 and will open up against ninth ranked Hobart (16-3).  The Statesmen fell to RIT in the semifinals of the Liberty League but received an at large bid to the 61-team field.

On Saturday, Sean Polosky (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) netted the game winner in the 83rd minute to propel the Lions to their fifth AMCC Championship.

In their previous trip to the dance, the Lions earned their first NCAA Tournament victory.  Behrend defeated Washington & Jefferson 1-0 before falling in their next game to Montclair St., 2-1.

The Behrend offensive attack is led by junior forward Jake Gamble (Butler, PA/Butler) who has tallied 15 goals and four assists on the year.  He also broke the school record for career points and goals this season.  Sophomore midfielder Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) has played especially well of late.  During the Lions current eight-game win streak, Brower has netted eight goals and tallied one assist.

The Lions and Hobart will be meeting for the first time on Saturday.  Game time is 11 a.m.
