The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team faced off against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon. The Behrend Lions would cruise to a 9-0 victory. The win moves the blue and white to 1-1 on the year.
The blue and white were led by Erkin Nasirli (Baku/Baku Oxford School ) who would pair up with James Getty (Erie/Harborcreek ) in the number one singles to win 8-4. Nasirli would then take the number one singles over Waynesburg's Kevin Houseknecht by the score of 7-5, 6-2. Getty would also come away with a 2-0 record on the day with a win in number four singles.
Brian Kaleta (Harborcreek/Harborcreek ) and Shane Mosier (Kersey/St. Marys ) would team up to win the number two doubles by a 9-8 mark. Mosier would come back in the number two singles to get his second victory of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Also coming out on the winning end was Kelly Manning (Sharpsville/Kennedy Catholic) and John Michalko (Washington/McGuffey) in the third doubles match-up. In singles John Henderson (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair), Getty, Peter Bissert (Pittsburgh/Seton-LaSalle), and Brad Nagel (West Alexander/McGuffey) would take home victories.
The blue and white will be in action on February 27 against Westminster at 4:00 p.m. They will then host Grove City on March 6 before they go on their spring training trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
