Behrend Men's Volleyball Splits AMCC Tri-Match

LATROBE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball split a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matches on Saturday. The Lions defeated St. Vincent in five and fell 3-2 to Geneva in the nightcap.

Match One:
Score:
Penn State Behrend 3, St. Vincent 2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-11, 25-10, 15-9)
Records:  Penn State Behrend (10-4, 4-0 AMCC), St. Vincent (2-9, 2-3 AMCC)

Key Moments:

* The Behrend Lions won three unanswered sets to clinch the AMCC win
* The victory extends Behrend's win streak to 10 straight
* With two points difference in the first two sets, the Lions held a 14 and 15 point advantage in the next two sets to force a fifth
* In the decisive set, Behrend never trailed after the first point
* The Lions used a 6-1 run to close out the fifth set, getting an ace from Diego Ortiz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) and a kill from JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry)
* Goodsel and Cody Schnur (Butler, PA/Butler) each led the team with 12 kills
* Goodsel completed a double-double with 12 digs while adding four aces and three blocks
* Ortiz registered 27 assists and nine digs in the win, while Adrian Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) recorded 21 digs

Records:  Geneva (8-10, 4-1 AMCC), Penn State Behrend (10-5, 4-1 AMCC)

Key Moments:

* Similar to the first match, the Lions rallied from two sets down
* Geneva jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fifth set and never looked back for the win in the AMCC Game of the Week
* Peter Barbato knocked down his 15th kill of the day for the final point at 15-10
* The Golden Tornadoes are now tied for second in the AMCC with Behrend at 4-1
* Barbato and Bryon Spear each led with 15 kills
* Goodsel knocked down a career-high 21 kills and tallied 18 digs for his second double-double of the day
* Ortiz also had a career day, dishing out 42 assists over the five sets
* John Cageao (Beaver, PA/Lincoln Park Performing Arts) had double-digit digs with 12 and Dylan Buzalka (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) had double-digit kills with 10
