ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend captured the 2022 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship, defeating Geneva 3-1 in the title game at the Junker Center on Saturday.

Noteworthy:

* JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) and Adrian Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) were named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team
* Goodsel registered 36 kills and 30 digs, while Martinez posted 29 digs over the tournament weekend
* This is the second AMCC title this year for head coach Phil Pisano, winning with the women's volleyball team in the fall
* The Lions are making their first-ever appearnce in the NCAA Tournament

* The Behrend Lions avenged a pair of regular-season losses to the Golden Tornadoes to win their second overall AMCC Title
* The Lions last won in the championship in 2018
* Goodsel led the match with 20 kills on 53 swings to go with 18 digs for a double-double
* Cody Schnur (Butler, PA/Butler) hit .419 with 16 kills on 31 attempts with two block assists
* Goodsel and Owen Wienczkowski (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) each had four block assists in the first set to keep the Lions out front
* With eight ties and five lead changes, Behrend broke a 14-all tie with four straight points to get the lead for good
* Diego Ortiz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) registered an ace at 23-18 and the Lions took advantage of two errors for a 25-19 victory
* Geneva tied the match with a close 25-23 win in the second set thanks to five kills from Byron Spear
* Goodsel led the Lions in the third set with seven kills and seven digs
* Behrend never gave up the lead in the final two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-18
* The Lions had a seven-point lead in the third at 21-14 and got four kills in their final four points to win the AMCC title
* In the final set, Behrend grabbed a 19-12 lead and rode the momentum to claim the AMCC Championship off a pair of kills from Goodsel and an attack error by Geneva
