ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team will open the 2022 season in Leesburg, Florida this week to participate in the Spring Games over Spring Break. The Lions open with Sage on Saturday at 11 a.m.

* The Lions were voted to finish first in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) 2022 Preseason Coaches Poll
* Seniors Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA/DuBois) and Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) were named Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively
* The Lions also return AMCC Newcomer of the Year Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg)
* Behrend is the reigning AMCC Champions, finishing the season with a 28-8 overall record
* The Lions swept Mt. Aloysius 2-0 and 1-0 in the championship game to advance to the NCAA Tournament
* The Lions fell to Franciscan in the AMCC semifinal round
* Ashley Gruber begins her ninth season as head coach for Behrend
* Gruber is 11 wins away from reach 200 for her career  
* In addition to Jones, Bundy and Schmidt, the Lions return All-Conference performers in Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy), Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) and Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva)
