Behrend Softball Set to Battle North Central at NCAA Regionals

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team will travel to Angola, Indiana for the 2022 NCAA Division III Regional on May 13-15 hosted by Trine University. The third-seed Lions (23-13) will face second-seed North Central (25-11) in the first round on Friday at 2 p.m.

Trine earned the top seed and will battle fourth-seed Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the second game of the day at 4:30 p.m. The tournament is double elimination with the winner advancing to the super regionals, which will take place from May 20-21.

The Lions won their 10th Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship with three straight wins in the tournament, including a 5-2 victory on Sunday in the title game. Behrend earned the conference's automatic bid to make its ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The Cardinals earned an at-large bid after falling in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships to Illinois Wesleyan, 4-3. North Central is making its 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, winning three regional titles.

There are 62 teams that are competing in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament. There are 15 four-team regional sites and one with two teams. Forty-three conferences received automatic bids (Pool A). The 19 remaining schools were selected on an at-large basis from the automatic qualifying conferences and the remaining independent institutions in Pool B.
