Behrend Softball Completes Undefeated Season in AMCC; Lions Sweep Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team went undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play with a perfect 18-0 record for the first time since 2009 thanks to a pair of wins over Carlow on Sunday. The Lions won 4-0 and 8-3. 

Game One: Penn State Behrend 4, Carlow 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (29-8, 17-0 AMCC), Pitt-Greensburg (13-22, 9-8 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) tallied her fifth shutout of the season and third in conference play
* Tingley allowed four hits and struck out four batters to earn her 16th win
* In Behrend's eight hits, the Lions registered four extra base with one double and three triples
* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview) helped Behrend take a lead in the first with a double down left-field line to score Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley)

Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) and Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) cranked out a triple apiece to generate two more runs in the third
* The final run came in the fourth inning, starting with an Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) triple
* Curcio scored on an error by the shortstop with Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) at bat to make it 4-0
* McNany and Petitte each recorded two hits each in the win

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 8, Carlow 3
Records: Penn State Behrend (30-8, 18-0 AMCC), Carlow (13-23, 9-9 AMCC)

 Key Moments: 

* Behrend scored all eight runs in the first two innings before letting Carlow get on board in the bottom of the fifth inning
* Petitte and Williams each tallied three hits
* Petitte smacker her fourth home run of the season and added a double for four RBIs
* Williams registered two more doubles to make it a total of three on the day
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and struck out four to help the Lions go undefeated in AMCC action
* Petitte set the tone in the first inning with a home run that also scored M. Jones
* Petitte also drove in the firs two runs of the second inning with double to right field
* McNany had an RBI single to score M. Jones, before Salvini reached on an error to score Petitte
* Williams had a two RBI double to left field to make it 8-0 in two short innings
* Carlow scored three runs on one hit in the fifth, while only being able to a hit in each of the final two frames

* The Lions return to action on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the AMCC Championship Tournament. The opponent is to be determined.
