No. 5 Carnegie Mellon Scores Early in Win over Lions

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon women's soccer team scored three goals in the first half to defeat Penn State Behrend 3-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

The Tartans (12-1) netted three goals on seven shots to take the early lead and hold on for the win.  Tory Iatarola had a goal and an assist for Carnegie Mellon, while Katie Liston picked up her 12th win in goal and earned the shutout with two saves.

On the Tartans first corner kick of the game, Iatarola found Alex Moy on the opposite post for a 1-0 lead just 1:53 after the opening whistle.

Savina Reid gave Carnegie Mellon a 2-0 edge in the 20th minute off a pass across the box from Morgan Kontor. Iatarola buried a free kick into the left corner for a comfortable 3-0 Tartan advantage at the 30:23 mark.

The Lions (13-5-1), who faced their first nationally-ranked opponent this season, managed four shots on the night and Taylor Troyan (Butler, PA/Butler) had one save in between the pipes.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against La Roche in the first round of the AMCC Tournament. Game time is 2 p.m.
