Dominance Continues for the Lions

ERIE, Pa. – The Behrend women’s tennis team posted their fifth straight shut out and seventh of the season to remain undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action thanks to a 9-0 win over D’Youville on Friday.

The Lions (9-2, 7-0 AMCC) only lost eight games on the day, two in doubles and six in singles. Arica Christman and Steph Cattron blanked Melissa Kanalley and Ellen Remillard 8-0, while Hillary Lasher and Leslie Durante tallied their third consecutive doubles win with an 8-1 victory. In the third spot, Casey Smith and Mareesa Schepis made their first appearance as a couple this season, winning 8-1.

With a 3-0 lead after doubles play, Christman recorded her sixth straight win at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. For Cattron, she made it five in a row at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.  Lasher, playing at third singles, has only lost three games in the last four wins and two came today in a 6-0, 6-2 decision.

The final three wins were 6-0, 6-0 victories by Durante, Allison Quigley and Jenna Sellitto. Quigley posted her second shut out win and Sellitto kept her unbeaten streak alive with her fourth victory this year.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Penn State Altoona and Mercyhurst at Westwood Racquet Club, beginning at 1 p.m.
