Women's Tennis Handles Medaille, 8-1

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team only surrendered two sets to Medaille, posting an 8-1 victory over the Mavericks for the AMCC and season-opening victory on Friday evening at the Behrend courts.

The top five players for the Lions (1-0, 1-0 AMCC) each recorded two wins on the day. Arica Christman (Sharon, PA/Sharon) and Stephanie Cattron (Greenville, PA/Commodore Perry) each won at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, before teaming up for an 8-0 decision in doubles.

The other two doubles matches were won by scores of 8-0. Leslie Durante (Fairview, PA/Fairview) and Allison Quigley (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton) were winners at the No. 2 spot and Jade Buhite (Ashtabula, OH/Edgewood) and Rachel Harris (Russel, PA/Eisenhower) collected the victory at No. 3.

Durante tallied a 6-3, 6-1 singles win in the third spot and Quigley won 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth. Harris tallied the fifth and final singles victory of the day, 6-0, 6-1.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow against Franciscan. Match begins at 1 p.m.
