Penn State Behrend Volleyball took the Junker Center floor in the first round of the AMCC tournament and came away with a victory against the D'Youville Spartans. Behrend won the match by a score of 3-0. Set scores were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19.
The blue and white built an early lead in the first game and
pulled away at the end to take care of the Spartans for a game one
victory. The second was more of the same as the Behrend Lions
did not let go of the lead and continued their momentum with a
solid game two win. Game three saw D'Youville cut the lead
late to 22-18, but that would be all the closer they would get as
Behrend pulled away with a 25-19 win.
Carissa Johnston (Cambridge Springs/Cambridge Springs) and Lauren
Dalton (Cochranton/Cochranton) each smacked ten kills to lead the
offensive effort. Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City)
finished with nine kills and Alex Johnson (Imperial/West Allegheny)
posted seven kills and three blocks. Danielle Woods
(Pittsburgh/Baldwin) led the defense with 19 digs, while Brooke
Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland) worked for 40 assists as
the #2 seeded Behrend Lions advanced to the AMCC semifinals.
Head coach Phil Pisano said, "We made a lot of nice plays tonight
and took some terrific swings, but we also struggled in making too
many unforced errors. Hopefully we can be sharper this
weekend because we'll need to be hungry and focused to keep our
season going."
The blue and white (21-9) will now travel to Frostburg, Maryland to
face #3 Pitt-Bradford on Friday, November 6 in the second semifinal
match of the evening. #1 Frostburg State will battle #4 Penn
State Altoona in the first semifinal match at 6:00 p.m.
