Altoona Nips Lions in AMCC Semifinals

ALTOONA, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Penn State Altoona Lions halted Penn State Behrend volleyball teams chance at an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship, defeating the Lions 3-2 in the conference semifinals on Friday night.

Altoona took the lead with 25-18 and 28-26 wins in the first two set to put themselves one set away from winning. In true championship style, Behrend fought back to win the next two sets 25-21 and 27-25, before falling in the tiebreaker set, 15-12.

Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) paced the fourth-seeded Lions with 22 digs and 17 kills, while senior Stefanie Kelley (Moon Township, PA/Moon) tallied a team-high 29 digs.  

Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) recorded 42 assists, eight kills and three aces. She helped Alyssa Pears (Meadville, PA/Meadville) and Sarah Jacobs (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) with 11 and nine kills, respectively.

Jessica Woods (Corry, PA/Corry) almost had a double-double with 10 kills and eight blocks. Brittany Dhayer (Georgetown, PA/South Side) posted 18 digs in the loss.
