Behrend Women's Volleyball Gets Past Kean, Brooklyn

UNION, NJ - The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team defeated Kean 3-1 and Brooklyn 3-0 in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon.

Records: Penn State Behrend (6-4), Kean (3-5)

Match One:

* Kean managed to take the first set from the Lions, never trailing for a 25-16 win
* Down 6-2 in the second, Sara Novak (Burrell, PA/Burrell) served Behrend to its first lead at 8-6
* The Cougars tied it twice and regained a four-point lead at 18-14
* The serving of Kelli Hoffer and Dani Kosslow (Pittsburgh, PA/South Park) combined with five kills from Keely Hering (North East, PA/North East) tied the match at 1-all with a 25-22 victory
* The Lions won the third set, keeping the steady lead and winning by seven and then fending off Kean in the fourth set down the stretch at 25-22
* Keely led with 15 kills, nine digs and two aces, while Kristin Reiland (Fairview, PA/Villa Maria) added 10 kills and seven digs
* Ellec Scouten (McKean, PA/General McLane) had a career-high 16 digs

Match Two:

* The win marks the third straight for the Lions
* Maddie Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg), who registered a team-best 22 digs in the first match, led with 11 digs and six aces
* Brooke Joncas (Corry, PA/Corry) had a team-high 11 kills
* Kosslow combined for 58 assists on the day, recording 24 vs. the Bulldogs and adding eight digs
* As a team the Lions registered 17 service aces, the second-best total this season
* After winning the first set, Behrend found themselves training 17-13 in the second set
* Clapper served eight consecutive points to turn it around at 23-17 in favor of the Lions
* A service error by Brooklyn and an ace from Scouten sealed the second set 25-21
* Behrend jumped ahead 24-14 in the third and used a kill by Joncas for the match at 25-20
