ERIE, Pa. – The Behrend women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the 2023 Behrend Invitational held in the Junker Center on Friday. The Lions defeated Fredonia 3-0 and fell to Grove City, 3-0.
Match One:
Final Score: Behrend 3, Fredonia 0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-17)
Records: Penn State Behrend (4-0), Fredonia (1-4)
Key Moments:
* The Behrend Lions tallied 11 kills with only two errors in all three sets against the Blue Devils to keep the winning streak alive at four in a row
* The Lions hit .325 while holding Fredonia to just .019 attack percentage
* Hannah Phillips (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) tallied 10 kills and eight digs
* Breana Reynolds (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit .600 with six kills on 10 attempts
* Defensively, Sarah Nobach (Athens, MI/Athens) led with 19 digs
* The match had 13 times the score was tied and seven lead changes over three sets
* Behrend won the first set by four points and then held Fredonia to just 12 points in the second set
* The Blue Devils got ahold of a four-point lead at 14-10 in the third set
* Maura Benim (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) served four straight points to give the Lions a 15-14 lead
* From there, Behrend never trailed and won the final 10 of 13 points
* Setter Meg Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) posted 23 assists, eight digs and four kills in the win

Final Score: Grove City 3, Behrend 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-15)
Records: Penn State Behrend (1-0), Grove City (0-1)
Key Moments:
* Nobach recorded back-to-back double-digit dig performances with 13 in the second match
* Nobach is now 15 digs away from 500 for her career
* Goodsel matched her assist total from the opening match at 23, while Phillips knocked down seven kills
* In the first set, the Lions held a 12-11 advantage in kills yet the Wolverines pulled away with a nine-point lead at 20-11
* Behrend had a -7-5 lead to start the second set and Grove City came back to gain an eight-point lead at 22-14
* The Wolverines grabbed a double-digit lead on three occasions in the third to collect their seventh win of the season
