Gators Rally Past Lions, 10-4

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team fell to Allegheny 10-4 on Thursday afternoon.

The Lions (13-10) opened the scoring in the top of the third.

Tommy Kocur (Erie, PA/McDowell) singled, then stole second and advanced to third on a balk. After an Alex Margraf (Erie, PA/McDowell) walk, Jordan Weinzierl (St. Mary's PA/St. Marys) drilled an RBI single to put Behrend up 1-0. Margraf then scored on Ryan Finnegan's RBI groundout.

Weinzierl later came home on a Gators throwing error, and the Lions led 3-0.

Joe Killian responded for Allegheny in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double, and it was 3-2 Behrend after three.

The Lions padded their lead in the fifth. Finnegan drew a one-out walk, and Bohman followed with a single to center, advancing Finnegan to third. John Hlavinka (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) then nailed an RBI hit that gave Behrend a two-run advantage.

In the following half-inning, the Gators struck for two on a Jacob Shick RBI double that was followed by a Lions error which ended up tying the contest.

Two innings later, Allegheny (18-7) broke the game open on a host of unearned runs.

After the Gators loaded the bases, Eric Weyant scored on a Behrend error to put Allegheny up, 5-4. Next, Shick came home on a bases loaded walk, expanding the Gators lead. Adam Bronson then emptied the pond with a three-run single that made it a 9-4 game.

All told, it was a six-run inning for Allegheny. The Gators went on to win, 10-4.

Justin Dilla (South Park, PA/South Park) and Kocur each had two-hit games for Behrend.

The Lions will travel to D'Youville for a conference doubleheader on Friday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m.
