NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Shane Skelly (Westlake, OH/Westlake) scored 19 points with nine rebounds and Zane Hackett (Brookville, PA/Brookville) scored 16 points and nine boards to lead the Penn State Behrend men's basketball team past Westminster 92-76 on Saturday afternoon at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
The Lions (3-1) were forced to overcome a slow start as the Titans (0-5) jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead. Behrend, then, would put things in gear. The Lions outscored Westminster 41-15 the rest of the first half to take a 16 point lead into the locker room.
The Titans were eventually able to cut the Behrend lead to nine on a Charlie Wallander layup with 4:43 left, but an ensuing Hackett layup extended the Lions' lead to the point of no return.
Casey Courneen (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) was 4-for-8 from three-point land with 13 points and Nick Delisio (Aliquippa, PA/Central Valley) finished with 14 points and was perfect (6-of-6) from the foul line. Keith Wallace (Erie, PA/Central Tech) continued his stellar play with a career-high 10 assists.
Behrend dominated Westminster on the glass, out-rebounding the Titans 47-28.
The Lions were able to overcome a superb effort by Wallander, who finished with 31 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
Behrend will return home to take on D'Youville at 6 p.m. on December 4.
