Men's Golf Finishes Day One at NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, NY - The Penn State Behrend men's golf team is tied for 29th place out of 41 teams after the first day of the NCAA Championships held at the Mendon Golf Club in Rochester, New York on Tuesday.

The Lions are tied with Babson with a +31 for the par 71 course to get a team total of 315. Claremont-Mudd Scripps finished first with a leading score of 286 for two-over par. St. Thomas (MN) is second (+13) for 297 and the hosts St. John Fisher is third with a one-stroke difference for a 298.

Nicholas VanDamia (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) paced Behrend in the first round with a 75 for 18 holes. He was even (35) through the first nine thanks to two birdies and then was four over on the back (40) to finish tied for 38th place overall.

Sean Sculley (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst) was eight over to tie for 109th place with a 79 on the day. He birdied two holes and carded a 40 on the front, while his 39 on the back was the best score on the team.

Alex Shindledecker (Erie, PA/McDowell) tied for second on the team and 109th place with Sculley. He tallied a 37 on the front nine and a 42 on the back for a total of 79. His only birdie was on a par three on the front nine.

Cody Stinson (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) finished +11 for an 82, tying for 157th place in the field. Stinson was five over on the front (40) and six over on the back for a score of 42. Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was the fifth golfer to participate for the Lions. He tied for 180th place with an 84. He carded a 41 for the first nine and 43 on the last nine.



Behrend returns to action tomorrow for day two of the NCAA Championships. The will compete on the par 72 Midvale Country Club course.
