Lions Complete Day One at NCAA Golf Championships

GREENSBORO, NC – The Penn State Behrend men's golf team competed in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center on Tuesday.

Storms forced suspension of the opening round for half of the contestants in their first 18 holes. The Lions were able to finish the round with a score of 316 to sit tied for 37th with the incomplete results.

Ryan Matlock (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) led Behrend on day one. He is tied for 108th place with a five over par (77). He Birdied a par five on hole two to card a 38 on the front and a 39 on the back nine. Noah Kunst (Kittanning, PA/Kittanning) carded a 79 for his first round to tie for 148th place after 18 holes. He shot a 37 on the front and 42 on the back.

Mark Peters (Mercer, PA/Mercer) tied Kunst for 148th overall, shooting a seven over par. He tallied the team-best score on the back nine with a 36 thanks to a birdie on hole 13 (par four). Peters tallied a 43 on the front. Sean Sculley (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) was nine over par (81) to tie for 174th after day one on the course. He birdied hole 11 (par three) for a 39 on the last nine holes and adding a 42 to his score from the first nine.

Jack Perfett (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was the final golfer for the Lions. He tallied a 96 for the day, carding a 52 on the front and 44 on the back.

The first round is slated to resume Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday's regularly scheduled second round begins at approximately 11:00 a.m. with a shotgun start on Grandover's East and West Courses.
