Meyer Named AMCC Newcomer of the Year

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend freshman men's golfer Ryan Meyer (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) was named the 2019 All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Newcomer of the Year, while four other golfers were named to the All-AMCC Team, announced on Thursday.

Senior Garrett Schlick (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) was the lone Lion to earn first-team honors, while Meyer and senior Mark Peters (Mercer, PA/Mercer) were chose to the second team. Alex Pol (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and JT Kuchnicki (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) landed on the third team.

Schlick was the top performer for Behrend at the AMCC Championships this season. He placed third with a team-low score of 159 (79-80). The senior ranked second overall in the AMCC individual scoring averages with a 78.58 for 12 rounds. Schlick carded a season-low 74 on two occasions.

Meyer was the leading freshman and fourth overall in the AMCC with a 79.0 average. The newcomer competed in all 12 rounds this season. He was runner up at the Altoona Invitational and the James Bowen Invitational with a season-low score of 75. Meyer finished the season at the AMCC Championships, placing 12th overall with a 167 total.   

Peters finishes his collegiate career with his first All-Conference accolades. He tied for eighth at the AMCC Championships with a 163 (83-80) and also tied for eighth in the individual conference rankings with an 80.0 average for the season.

Pol is making his second appearance on the third team after earning the honor a year ago. The sophomore is tied with Peters for eighth in the AMCC rankings with an 80.0 average. Pol competed in 11 out of 12 rounds and fired a team-low score of 72 on day two of the Oswego Fall Invitational to take home individual medalist honors.

Kuchnicki has an 80.14 average for seven rounds, good enough for 10th in the AMCC scoring rankings. The senior was tied for first place after day one of the AMCC Championships and finished sixth overall with a 162 (77-85). Kuchnicki had a season-low 74 on the first day of the Oswego Fall Invitational.
