Lions Advance to AMCC Championship

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team advanced to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship game with a 4-0 defeat of Mt. Aloysius (8-11-1) Wednesday afternoon. Christian Harrington (Warren, PA/Warren Area) notched two goals in the victory to propel the Lions (17-3) to their 12th straight win. Behrend has advanced to the AMCC Championship 16 times out of 18 seasons the conference has been in existence and have played in the title game every year since 2006.

The Lions demonstrated beautiful passing all game. Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) contributed three assists, increasing his team-leading total to 13. Anthony Crivelli (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneva Valley) netted a goal and an assist on the afternoon upping his season point total to 35.

Harrington boosted Behrend to an early 1-0 lead with a one-touch volley shot from the top of the box coming just 9:04 into the game. Four minutes later the Lions grabbed a 2-0 lead when Crivelli drilled a shot past the goalkeeper.

Behrend was never short of scoring chances outshooting Mt. Aloysius 13-1. At the 27:43 mark, Sam McSherry (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) headed in a goal giving Behrend a commanding 3-0 lead early in the game. Again Harrington struck at the 56:48 mark scoring off of a cross by Belack to seal the game.

Behrend's defense held Mt. Aloysius in check recording the team's 13th shutout of the year and third straight. Jarrod Wassell (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned his 15th victory of the year and ninth shutout in the net.

Looking to win back-to-back championships, the Lions will host the winner of Pitt-Greensburg and Medaille in the AMCC title game on Saturday.
