Schwarzel Notches Two in the Lions Win

BRADFORD, Pa. – Nick Schwarzel (South Park, PA/South Park) scored two goals and Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) tallied one to lead Penn State Behrend men's soccer past Pitt-Bradford 3-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday.

The Lions (12-4, 7-0 AMCC) have now outscored AMCC opponents 22-3 in seven contests to remain undefeated in conference play.

Dziadosz got the scoring started for Behrend with his seventh goals of the season when a shot deflected back to him. After he collected the ball, he cut it back inside the 18-yard box and curled a left-footed shot back post for a 1-0 lead.

At the 37:27 mark, Schwarzel tallied his first collegiate goal from a Nick Kisiel (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) assist. Kisiel gathered the ball just beyond midfield and played a diagonal ball that split the two central defenders, which found an airborne Schwarzel header for the goal.

The Lions ended the first half out-shooting the Panthers 13-1.

The second half remained scoreless until the 86th minute when Schwarzel struck again. He volleyed in his second goal of the match coming from Dziadosz service into the box.

Pitt-Bradford Tyler Knoch refused to give up in the final minute of the game when he notched his first goal of the season coming from a counter-attack.

Behrend returns to action at home on Saturday to take on the La Roche Redhawks at 1 p.m.
