Westminster Outlasts Men's Swimming and Diving

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster men's swimming and diving team posted a 157-106 non-conference victory over Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.

Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) was the first individual winner in the 50 free with a time of 21.89, before placing second in the 100 free (49.89). The junior was also a part of two relays. He swam the opening leg of the winning 400 free relay along with Nick Roth (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), Kenton Matthaei (Madison, NJ/Madison) and Nick Kost (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge). The foursome touched in 3:27.07.

Simon, Scott Romanko (Plum, PA/Plum), Roth and Matthaei finished second in the other relay in the meet. The group had a time of 1:41.25 in the 200 medley relay.

In the second event, Roth led the Lions in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.69. He then paced a 1-2-3 finish by Behrend in the 100 butterfly. His time of 57.39 was good for first, while Romanko took second and Michael Reinmund (Pittsburgh, PA/Seton La-Salle) was third.

In addition to the 100 butterfly, the Lions took the top three spots in the 500 free and 200 IM. Kost was the leader in the 500 free (5:20.44), followed by Ryan Mitcheltree (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Justin Seeley (North East, PA/North East).

Kost also took first in the 200 IM in 2:03.92. Steve Torre (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) came in second and Lloyd Koester (Edinboro, PA/General McLane was third.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Allegheny. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
