Men's Swimming and Diving Downs Alfred State

ALFRED, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's swimming and diving team won 15 of the 16 events to defeat Alfred State 200-95 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Mark Patterson (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Steven Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) each won four times on the day, starting with the 400 medley relay along with Michael Bauer (Northampton, PA/Northampton) and Noah Babik (Penn Township, PA/Penn Trafford). The foursome came in first with a time of 3:46.32. The Lions also placed second and third in this event, just won of six events Behrend swept.

The Lions also swept the 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle and the 200 IM. David Ewing (South Fayette, PA/South Fayette) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:56.33, followed by Patterson in the 200 freestyle. He touched in 1:53.69 for his second win of the day.

Alex Croll (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) was the top finisher in the 100 freestyle (50.49) and Jacob Schmidt (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) was first in the 500 freestyle (5:09.30).

Owens led a pair of Behrend swimmers in the 200 IM, touching first in 2:10.71. The freshman also won the 100 butterfly (56.59) and the 200 butterfly (2:10.16).

Patterson was victorious in the 100 backstroke with a pool record of 56.73, breaking a 47-year old record at Alfred. Bauer took second in the 100 back (57.19). The duo had the same finishing order in the 200 backstroke. Patterson had a winning time of 2:05.52 and Bauer in second in 2:06.12.

In addition to the 100 freestyle, Croll won the 50 free (23.02) and Quinn Fischer (Fairview, PA/Cathedral Prep) was second in 23.07. Croll was also runner up in the 100 butterfly behind Owens with a time of 59.01.

Babik picked up a pair of wins individually for Behrend in the breaststroke events. In the 100, he had a winning time of 1:04.92. Babik followed with a time of 2:23.32 for first place in the 200.

Matthew Kuchcinski (North East, PA/North East) dove his way to a third-place finish on the one-meter boards (161.50) and fourth on the three-meter boards (137.35).

The Lions return to action on Saturday for their home opener against Westminster. Meet begins at 2 p.m.
