Men's Tennis Blanks Westminster, 9-0

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team captured their first win of the spring season with a 9-0 non-conference win over Westminster on Friday night at the Westwood Racquet Club.

The Lions (1-6) were successful in both singles and doubles, earning two-set victories in the singles led by No. 1 Taimi Ando (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo).  Ando and Chris Galvin (Erie, PA/McDowell) only gave up two set points in their wins.

Ando defeated Troy Abbott 6-1, 6-1 for his second singles win of the season and Galvin posted a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 2 singles. Lerdlarp Jaturapol (Bangkok, Thailand/Palmerslon) was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at the third spot, while David Buiter (London, England/IMG Academies) posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.

Raphael Bretz (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) and Carson Emili (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) completed the sweep of the singles. Bretz competed at No. 5 singles and won 6-4, 6-4. Emili played at the final spot for a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Ando, Galvin, Jaturapol and Buiter picked up a second win in doubles.

Ando and Galvin teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 1. Jaturapol and Buiter earned their second win this season at the No. 2 spot with an 8-2 decision.

Guillermo Guillen (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/E.I.S) registered his first collegiate victory at No. 3 doubles with Bretz. The pair earned an 8-5 win.

The Lions return to action tomorrow at Alfred.
