Men's Tennis Defeats Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend men's tennis team started their fall season with a 5-4 win over Nazareth in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

Three different players won twice for the Lions (1-0), including Yanigue Apgar (Pittsburgh, PA/East Allegheny) and Andre Robert (San Jose, Costa Rica/PAS) at the No. 1 doubles competition to make the difference with an 8-3 decision. Behrend and the Eagles split singles play, 3-3.

Matthew Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern) and David Buiter (London, England/IMG Academies) were 8-4 winners at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Apgar posted a three-set victory (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) at No. 1, while Johnson won 6-3, 6-2 at the third spot. Buiter was victorious at fourth singles, winning 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday against Thiel. Match begins at 4 p.m.
