Men's Volleyball Falls to No. 1 Stevens and Vassar

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team dropped a pair of United Volleyball Conference (UVC) matches to No. 1 Stevens 3-0 and Vassar 3-1 on Saturday in New Jersey.

Stevens knocked in 14 aces and 38 kills while hitting .386 to defeat the Lions (11-14, 1-7 UUV) in three sets 25-18, 25-9, 25-15. Vassar pulled out a 25-18, 25-17, 9-25, 25-15 win in the nightcap.

Ty Sheehan (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) led Behrend with 13 kills and 13 digs for the two matches.

Sheehan gave the Lions an 11-10 lead over top-ranked Stevens with an ace. The Ducks a 7-0 run to take the lead back for good in the first set for a 25-18 win.

Stevens held the Lions to just nine points in the second set for a 2-0 lead and then only allowed five kills while knocking in 14 for a 25-15 third-set victory to remain undefeated in conference play.

In the second match, Sheehan recorded eight kills, six digs and two blocks for Behrend. Eric Theiss (Plum, PA/Plum) added seven kills.  

Vassar grabbed an early 2-0 advantage in the match, before the Lions capitalized on 15 attack errors and only committing one on their side to not give the Brewers a chance to get in the set for a 25-9 win.

Vassar used a 8-2 run in the middle of the fourth set to take a 18-10 lead. A kill from Reno Kriz and Matthew Knigge along with a few errors by Behrend pushed the Brewers to a 25-15 victory.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Wells in a tri-match with New Jersey City.
