Women's Swimming and Diving Captures AMCC Title

GROVE CITY, Pa. – In true championship fashion, it came down to the final 400 free relay event to crown a champion of the 2016 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) meet held at Grove City on Saturday.

The Lions claimed their ninth AMCC Championship with a first-place finish by Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte), Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village), Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:42.84. This finish broke a five-year old AMCC open, AMCC meet and school record. This group defeated second-place Cabrini by 13 seconds.

With the relay win, Behrend finished with 237 points to edge out Cabrini by eight points (229). Pitt-Bradford came in third with 116 points and Altoona was fourth (105). Franciscan took the final place with a team score of 49.

Anna Rose Watterson (Baldwin, PA/Seton-La Salle) and Lowery tied for the AMCC Championships highest-point getter with 27.

In addition to the relay, Behrend had three individual winners on the night, starting with Watterson in the 1650 freestyle. She won the gold medal and was eighth overall with a time of 18:58.09.

In the 200 backstroke, Schneider took first place and 13th overall with a winning time of 2:22.60, while Kristen Owens (Erie, PA/McDowell) was the AMCC champion in the 200 breaststroke and 16th overall (2:44.32).

Horn finished runner-up in the 100 free (54.82) and Wyckoff was fourth in the conference and 13th overall by one second difference (55.82).
